1. Information Stored on Your Device
Grindline keeps the following information locally so its features work:
- Profile details - name, gender, age, height, weight, and an optional profile photo.
- Nutrition logs - meals, calories, macros, hydration, and supplements you record.
- Workout data - exercises, sets, reps, weights, durations, and session history.
- Tasks and reminders - titles, descriptions, dates, and scheduling preferences.
- AI chat history - recent conversations you choose to have with Grindline's assistant; chat history stays on-device unless its content is included in a new cloud AI request.
- Photos you choose for a profile or task, plus saved workout story images. Food-scan photos are processed for the scan rather than saved with a meal log.
2. Apple Health and HealthKit
With your permission, Grindline reads activity rings, workouts and workout routes, heart rate, heart-rate variability, and sleep data from Apple Health to show activity, recovery, and sleep insights. Grindline can also write the workouts, sleep estimates, hydration, and nutrition you log to Apple Health.
HealthKit data is not used for advertising or sold. It is not included in Cloud Sync. If you use a cloud AI feature, Grindline may include a relevant summary of your fitness, recovery, sleep, or activity data in the request so the feature can answer you; the data is otherwise processed on-device. Apple Intelligence requests that the system can handle run on-device.
3. Information Sent When You Use a Feature
Grindline does not run an advertising SDK or sell data. Some features need to send limited information to the service that provides that feature:
Before your first cloud AI request, Grindline explains what may be shared and asks for permission. You can decline and keep using the rest of the app, or turn Cloud AI off later in Profile → Preferences.
- Cloud AI - your prompt, any selected food photo, and relevant context such as profile details, nutrition, hydration, supplements, workout plans and history, tasks, or HealthKit-derived summaries. The app uses Google Gemini for cloud AI; a food-analysis request may fall back to Groq if needed.
- Food barcode lookup - the barcode is sent to Open Food Facts to retrieve product nutrition information.
- Weather - the city or search text you enter is sent through Grindline's secure service to retrieve weather results from WeatherAPI.
- Feedback - when you submit feedback, we send the category, message, optional name, app version, build number, device model, system version, and a random installation identifier. Optional diagnostic logs are sent only when you choose to include them.
- Cloud Sync - the backup data described in Section 5 is sent to Firebase only after you start Cloud Sync.
4. Optional Cloud Sync
Cloud Sync uses Firebase Authentication with an anonymous account and Firebase Firestore. You do not provide an email address, password, or phone number for Cloud Sync. The anonymous Firebase user ID associates the backup with your device.
A backup may include your profile (including a profile photo), task details, workout plans, up to 100 workout logs from the previous 90 days, up to 500 meals from the previous 30 days, supplement names, and selected app settings. Cloud Sync does not back up Apple Health data, hydration logs, sleep estimates, supplement completion logs, task photos, saved workout stories, or local AI chat history.
- Auto Backup remains off until you enable it. Backup Now starts a one-time backup and creates the anonymous Firebase account if needed.
- You can delete the Cloud Sync backup and anonymous Firebase account in Settings > Cloud Sync > Delete Cloud Account & Data. This leaves your local data on your device.
5. How We Use Information
- To display your fitness, nutrition, and recovery summaries inside the App.
- To run on-device animations, widgets, and Live Activities.
- To send local notifications for tasks and workout reminders.
- To answer AI, food-analysis, meal-planning, coaching, and weather requests that you start.
- To deliver feedback you choose to submit and to back up or restore data if you enable Cloud Sync.
6. Retention and Your Choices
- Local data remains on your device until you delete it in the App or uninstall Grindline. You can delete an individual saved AI chat from the Chat history list.
- Your Cloud Sync backup remains under its anonymous Firebase ID until you delete the Cloud Sync account and data in Settings.
- Photos remain in the app only as part of the feature or item for which you saved them. Deleting that item removes its local copy.
- You can change Health, Camera, Photo Library, and Notification permissions in iOS Settings at any time.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data. Use the in-app controls above where available, or contact us at the email below for help with a request.
8. Children's Privacy
Grindline is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Security
We use HTTPS for network requests and rely on Apple's app sandboxing, HealthKit permissions, and Firebase access controls for the features that use them. No transmission or storage method is completely secure.
10. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated in the App before they take effect.
